Explanation of Janine Lemaire’s work
I work with wallpaper that I cut up finely to make paintings, the frames of which are generally taken from old amateur paintings.
I restore these frames which give an extra touch to my paintings. It is a technique that I have invented, mastered and refined over the years. I am therefore the only one (probably even worldwide) to work on wallpaper in this way.
Why wallpaper? Because it offers possibilities of diversity, both in shapes and in colours. It is also a material that can be cut without too much difficulty, that has staying power, whose colours do not “fade”, do not suffer the degradation of time.
I have been living in my house since 2017. I first had it restored, then I painted it in a particular and unexpected way
